Intimacy: A Study of the Acadian Forest Floor

I am repeatedly drawn to the subject of the forest because of its diversity and the lack of dedication to conservation in New Brunswick. In the process of creating this body of work, I discovered that creating these pieces requires a lot of patience and time, which cannot be rushed, much like nature itself. I wish for my art to provide an opportunity for more people to form that first spark of connection between themselves and nature.

I find inspiration in nature, and it is at the center of my art. I don't simply want to replicate nature, instead, I want to invoke its wonder. My work is a combination of felting and embroidery techniques. I like to incorporate a variety of techniques into these pieces to replicate the different textures and depths that we experience in the Acadian Forest. I wanted to include lights to create a more magical effect to increase a sense of wonder.

I want my work to evoke curiosity and to promote living in harmony with nature. This series allows individuals to bring a piece of nature indoors without destroying the plants or harming our ecosystems. To me, these pieces represent a connection between intimacy and knowledge of a particular place and an individual’s desire to want to protect it.

Intimacy gives us a different way of seeing, when visual acuity is not enough.
